Just say no to anti-bacterial products, part two.

Scientists had already raised concerns about the pervasive use of triclosan contributing to bacteria mutations.  Now researchers at the University of California Davis and the University of Colorado  have found that Triclosan hinders muscle contractions at the cellular level, slows swimming in fish and reduces muscular strength in mice. This study has been published online in the proceedings of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.

Hot soapy water does a great job removing bacteria. The addition of triclosan to our hand soaps and dish soaps, and even toothpaste, mouthwash, and toys was a product and marketing idea that seemed good at the time but was not adequately thought out and researched.
